Mini CV
Paraskevi-Nefeli Papagianni is a current PhD Candidate in the Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Ioannina. In 2019, she completed the "Advanced Design: Innovation and Transdisciplinarity in Design" Postgraduate Program at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Nefeli has participated in several intensive workshops during her studies, including two international workshops in Tuscany (Italy, 2013) and FABFest (London, 2018), where her team won the 2nd place in the Fabrication category. Currently, she is working as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Architectural Engineering, in the course of Digital. Her research interests evolve around new computing tools, the way they influence architectural thinking, as well as interdisciplinary approaches to design. She has been professionally active in the wider field of Architecture since 2015.
Phd Thesis Summary
«AN INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO SPATIAL CHANGES UNDER THE IMPACT OF NEW DESIGN METHODS»
This dissertation is an attempt to explore the relationship between architecture and technology, in order to evaluate how the use of new computer technologies contributes to the morphology of the modern built environment. Computational tools and technology are constantly evolving and the design process cannot remain unaffected by the dynamic of this progress. The main question that arises is whether it is possible to develop the way of design and consequently the morphology of the buildings and the topological characteristics, of settlements that are part of a very specific and strict legal framework. The latter, however, is based on the existing characteristics of each region, which over time have created a specific style and its strict character is an attempt to preserve these traditional elements. For this reason, the intention of the dissertation is not only the deposition of modern morphologies in a traditional environment, but the study of how to integrate and their final configuration, through the creation of a system. In addition, for the implementation of the design research, the different meanings attributed to the concept of space, in relation to tradition and culture, must be studied.
