Malvina Apostolou is an architect and researcher. After completing her studies in Architecture (University of Patras), she obtained her master degree in socio-ecology (Université Paris 7) with an interdisciplinary approach. Her PhD in Architecture (HESAM Université-Hautes Écoles Sorbonne Arts et Métiers) is directed towards investigations of the process of architectural design, exploring, among other, the cognitive hierarchies of architectural synthesis under the prism of sustainable design, synthesizing an epistemological interpretation. She has collaborated with architectural offices in the design of projects at different scales (residential, hotel, open spaces). She has participated in scientific research on methodologies and strategies for sustainable cities at the European Commission's Research Centre (JRC) and at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). She has taught in the postgraduate programme Research in Architecture at the ENSA Paris la Villette and as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Patras. She has participated in workshops and has published studies in proceedings and journals, and architectural work in a magazine.
Her research interests include connections of theory and practice in the interpretation and design of urban and natural landscapes as well as questioning the cognitive process of design of non-hierarchical sustainable socio-ecological systems.
She is interested in the application of interdisciplinary approaches and methodological tools in the process of architectural synthesis at the crossroads of ecological, social and digital transitions.
