Mini CV
I was born in Ioannina city, Greece where I finished my secondary education. My academic education started in the Architecture Department of the University of Thessaly in the city of Volos where I excelled and I obtained my degree with Honors. During my five year degree I participated in workshop and education trips around the world. Before my master’s degree I worked in the architecture firm ARSIS where I participated in many projects including a national competition: Architectural competition for the new building of the ministry of infrastructures and transportation 2020, where our project received first prize. I continued my academic education with scholarship in the University of Edinburgh for my Master’s degree in Advanced Sustainable Design focusing in environmental friendly and bioclimatic architecture and I received my Master of Science degree with Honors. From 2021 I am a PhD student in the University of Ioannina, in the field of Sustainable design and Energy performance.
Phd Thesis Summary
The role of modern arhitectural energy design as a defining element of protection and upgrade of shells of heritage buildings
The purpose of this study is to formulate a framework of guidelines for the effective protection and upgrading of the architecture of listed buildings-monuments in accordance with the dictates of the current climatic and social situation.
Initially, the legal framework governing listed buildings is examined, as well as the procedure and criteria for designating a building as listed. Specifically, the content of Laws 3028/2002 (Ministry of Culture) and 2831/2000 (Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works) is analyzed, the provisions that refer to the buildings that can be preserved and those to be preserved. In addition to the identification of the listed building, a detailed record is made of the parameters that endanger not only their operation but also their existence as they tend to be victims of demolition due to poor management. The aim is also the study of energy savings in the building sector and specifically the contribution of the operation of the shell in buildings of historical and architectural value. At the same time, a new interpretation of how material-time interdependencies are explored is proposed, proposing a new approach by identifying the accumulated problems that are exacerbated on a daily basis, as most listed buildings built after 1830, although remarkable, do not meet current their operation and full utilization. Thus, creating the need for immediate intervention and finding effective ways to deal with it. For the study of bioclimatic interventions and proposals for energy upgrading, a selected public building is selected in the city of Ioannina. Then, its construction and functional characteristics as well as its energy consumption are recorded and classified. It is worth noting that in the international arena there are buildings with a protected shell, which are not protected. In the case of public buildings, such as the study building, it is imperative that the necessary actions be taken by those responsible for their protection and proper energy management. In the private sector, such buildings have already received interventions to alter their shell (which is allowed by law) and are related to all production and energy saving measures that visually affect the shell of buildings. Finally, shells exist to house every human activity while occurring at specific intervals and lasting accordingly. A key element of their duration, and their importance is the importance of each activity. Exploring these characteristics as elements of cultural expression is also the essence of the dissertation not as a concept but as an architectural proposal.
